When
70 Frank Frye returned from Nepal, we left at 6:00am that next morning
in his
van to visit Nicolas Hernandez in Lagunas, Mexico. I was returning to
Honduras after
covering for Frank while gone. We went believing we would find him. I
had
written Nicolas that we were coming to visit. I had his address because
about 5
minutes before he got off the bus, I asked him if he wanted a copy of
the Book
of Mormon to read. He said yes, and then he said he would like to share
with me
one day some of the experiences he had written in 4 different
notebooks. So I
said I’d love to and where did he live.
Armed
with a piece of paper, we went to the only gas station in Lagunas to
get gas.
Frank entered into the bathroom to shave, and I asked some people on
the other
side of the pump if they knew the address I had. The man said, “Isn’t
this
Heriberto’s brother, with whom they worked at the Cruz Azul cement
plant. They
took us to his brother’s house (next door to Nicolas’ house). He knew
who we
were, since his brother had shared of our conversations, and that we
were
coming. His brother took us to Nicolas’ work at about 1:00pm, and his
boss
(also a Christian) let him off work that afternoon to visit with us. We
sat for
about 4 hours discussing scripture. Nicolas asked how we were called
into the
minsitry. Frank & I each shared testimonies. Then Nicolas brought
out 2 of
his notebooks and we asked about the experience with the hill. We had
brought
with us a copy of the Restoration Witness where Frank had written an
article
and had photos of the hill. As our eyes fell upon the sketch that
Nicolas had
made, and looked at the photo at the bottom left of the page and they
were the
same! The same size, shape, and perspective! It was truly convincing to
all.
Nicolas had seen Hill Rabón. He would climb it one day and
write. That day
would be soon...but in God’s timing....
On
April 12, 1998, returning from elder’s conference by land, we stayed at
a hotel
in a nearby city and I went to see Nicolas at about 9:30pm that night.
He had
just arrived at home. We share of Zion. We both opened our scriptures
and both
Bibles fell open to Isaiah 60; the future glory of Zion. Since our last
visit,
Nicolas had asked the Lord about us and the Lord told Nicolas, “Do not
reject
the minsitry that they give you, for I have sent them.”
On
about June 27th, our family was travelling to the US to prepare to
gather, and
we stopped in again to visit. Now upon arriving, our family stays with
Heriberto and family. They have a nice house and they give us their
masterbedroom, and they sleep with their children. What friends. This
trip,
again Nicolas was home and he shared with us the next morning, that
that night
while praying, the Lord showed him a vision of our family, and he saw
himself.
He saw a light over his head, and a greater light over ours. On
July 25th while returning to Honduras from our job/school/home-hunting
visit to
the US, we again stopped to see him. No one was home at either house.
We felt
saddened. It was the first time we would not see him. We left to go
search for
him. While turning the corner from his house, we started down the next
street,
and he walked out of a neigbours house as I drove by. We share again.
It seemed
that the devil was trying to kill him. 2 times he had recently escaped
a car
accident. The next day we were involved in a car wreck, where we also
saw the
grace of Christ protecting us in our lead vehicle, while the towed
pick-up
broke free and smashed into another large truck. The rear of our truck
stopped
4 inches from the front bumper of his truck. The devil was truly at
work; and
so was Christ.
On
about June 16th, 1999 we stopped again and he told us of a vision he
had of a
mountain with snow, and people were around the base holding hands, from
different nations. In the heavens was descending Jesus with thousands
of his
saints. He knew that place was not in Mexico. We know it as Mt. Zion.
He knows
Zion is true.
In
one of these visits he shared that the Lord had told him that he would
be
ordained to His priesthood by the laying on of hands, and that God
would send
His representative.
Since
then, we’ve seen him a few more times. Now we don’t see him each time
we try.
He still knows he has a work on Hill Rabón. Our prayers are
still with him. His
last words to us was that he knew he would be working more closely with
our
church in the future.
Seventies
Neil Simmons and Frank Frye have also visited with him on occasion. I was not at
first compelled to ask him to become a part of this restoration gospel
directly, other than to teach him what we believed, and he
understood. It may now be God's timing. |
